Laminated Die Cut Rings for Superior Sealability

EGC laminated die cut rings are the highest quality packing rings on the market.  From cryogenics to molten metals, in vacuums to well heads, laminated rings show superior sealability in valves.  Laminated rings are consistent in size, density whereas ordinary packing rings are not.  Because of their consistency and precision EGC laminated rings display less hysteresis and stress while providing assured sealability for set gland loads.

Molded rings will permeate gas through the ribbon wraps which may be a failure in some seal requirements.

Braided rings will always permeate gas after a period of time when the blocking agents have leached out.

EGC die-cut laminated rings have optimized the sealing integrity of valve and pump packing.  Due to the crystal orientation of the graphite there is no leak path through the plane normal to the stem.

Engineering and Manufacturing

To manufacture with exact repeatability requires the highest in technology. EGC laminated rings are manufactured to machine tool tolerances with repeatability for 1 to 100,000 rings.

Raw Grafoil sheets of exact density are laminated together by hand with chemical bonds designed for customer applications.  Bonds of purity and consistency are chosen so that no unwanted elements are introduced.

Precise curing of the bond provides a complete carbon graphite structure as a final component.

Die cutting is performed with the skill of craftsmen.  Dies are designed and manufactured to within extreme tolerance requirements.  Each piece is cut, cleaned and qualitatively inspected.

Die Cut Precision

Due to the precision sizing and the lower axial to radial load transfer, die cut rings should be designed with a slight interference fit on the I.D. and O.D.

Die cut parts are then installed based on stress strain curves as shown on the graph on the following page.  Compression of the packing rings must be the total height of the rings.

Machined Laminated Products

Die cut laminated rings are the only style product that can be machined for very precision applications.  Machined parts can be  the simplest bevel to a complex government munitions of part, replacing mechanical carbons.
